5 Ways I manage my High Functioning Anxiety

I am determined to keep my anxiety manageable, and I have spent the last 7 plus years figuring out what works best for me. Time and time again it comes back down to these FIVE! I do each one just about every day and I can 100% say with confidence that on days I let it slide, my anxiety shows up stronger.

Keep reading for why I do each of them and let me know what one you’re going to try!

1.       Reading Personal Development- I read a “self-help,” aka “personal development” book every single morning, even for just 10 minutes. By starting the day with encouraging, motivating, powerful words my mind gets set on the right track and I am able to see with clarity all the things I want to get done and how to get them done without overwhelm or stress.

2.       Journaling- I write it all out. Everything in my head. Anxiety doesn’t like to make sense and when it stays jumbled up in our brains it only increases the level of anxiety which never feels good. When i sit down to write I just pour out anything and everything that I can think of. I release it out of my brain and that simple act frees up so much mental space for me to allow in a beautiful day.

3.       Exercising- Daily movement, a walk, yoga, stretching, cardio, weight lifting, swimming, anything! Anxiety is like built up adrenaline and when you get your heart rate going you can break it up and release it. So not only do I feel proud of myself for working out, I literally feel calmer and lighter and ready to slay the day!

4.       Hearty Breakfast- YOUR NUTRITION MATTERS! Believe it or not, your nutrition is absolutely playing a role in your level of anxiety. Because the day can easily get away from me (from everyone), I make sure to have a really nice nutritious breakfast so my mind and body are fueled right off the bat.

5.       Sunshine and being in the present moment- It’s harder in the winter months but I try my best to get SOME form of sunshine and fresh air every day. And along with this, none of the above will truly relieve your anxiety UNLESS you work on being in the moment. Being mindful, present of the action you are doing. Take your mind away from the crazy of life and focus on what it is you are actually doing, at this very moment. Practice doing this with all the above and magic will happen!
